INSURANCE DEPOSITS.
FEDERAL BILL PASSED. (Received March 11th, 12.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, March 10. The Insurance Deposits Bill requiring companies to lodge cash deposits or approved securities as a safeguard of policy-holders was passed by the House of Bepresentatives, only the Beasley faction dissenting. DARING HOLDUP. MAN FORCED TO SIGN CHEQUE. (Received March 11th, 12. a.m.) SYDNEY, March 10. An armed man entered the manager's office of a brick and tile works in the suburb of Stanmore, and forced Mr Arthur Shannon, the proprietor, to sign a cheque for £950. He then docamped. Mr Shannon gave the alarm, and throe policemen, after a terrific fight, overpowered nnd arrested the alleged culprit, Charles Bich, against whom several charges will be preferred. WRECKED STEAMER, CARGO WASHING ASHORE. (Received March 10th, 11.20 p.m.) SIDNEY, March 10. The stranded cargo steamer Northern Firth is breaking up. A portion of the vessel has disappeared and cargo is washing ashore. About two hundred tons have been salved. CHARGED WITH MURDER. (Received March 11th, 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Mairch 10. Tlie young man who was arrested yesterday on a charge Of murdering Alexander Barrie, at Paddington, on December 14th, is named William Norton, aged 26 years. He appeared before the Court to-day and was remanded.
