COMPENSATION CLAIM.
CITY COUNCIL SUED. Further argument was heard in the Assessment Court yesterday in connexion with the claim against tho Christchureh City Council by Poter Jack, of 7 London street, Richmond, who claimed from the Council £l6B 13s compensation, on the grounds that by the erection of an electrical substation on the section adjoining his house had been damaged. The claim was first heard on Wednesday, March 2nd, Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presiding, and with him wero Messrs R. A. Campbell and H. St. A. Murray, as assessors. The claimant's counsel alleged that the excavations for the foundations of the . sub-station had undermined tho foundations of Jack's house, and experts called in evidence stated that the wall of Jack's house had subsided, while the floor had sunk. There were large cracks in the house. The Court then adjourned in order to permit the Magistrate and the assessors to inspect the house. The hearing yesterday was devoted mainly to legal argument, after which it was announced that the Court would reserve its decision.
