THE LOSS OF THE TEDDY.
TO TH3 EDITOR OF THE Sir r~lt is indeed' regrettable to read that Mr Erling Tambs and his plucky wife have come to grief in New.Zealand waters. Everyone who realises the risks that these two have taken in sailing their boat lialf-way round the world must sympathise with Mr Tambs in the loss of the Teddy. The fact that .this boat, with a New Zealand crew, won the tran-s-Tasman race is sufficient to arouse in New Zealanders a desire to do something; to assist these two, people, stranded in a strange country because of the loss of their boat. I am quite sure that other yachtsmen can realise Mr Tambs's feeling?, for one undoubtedly dbes learn to have a very genuine affection for a'boitt. .It is gratifying to see that the yachting clubs of Auckland have already signified their intention to assist Mr Tambs, and I trust that the, Canterbury yachtsmen and the. public will also respond Times are hard, but I already know of several people who have stated their willingness to assist in a small way, if a subscription list-were, started. The object of this letter is .to ask if The Press would be willing; to receive subscriptions if same were forthcoming. Let us show our appreciation for a.brave man and his wife.'—Ypurs, £tC " YACHTSMAN. March lOtli, 1932. [We shall gladly receive and acknowledge subscriptions.—Ed., The • . PltESSi,] . , : ' ; v '
