LADBROOKS. The School Committee held the first meeting of the year .on Monday evening. .Those present were Messrs F. J. Coles (chairman), F. W. Meyer, T. Coleman, W. J. Gallagher, and R. J. Ware (secretary); Miss Laishley, headmistress, reported that the number of pupils on the roll was 45 and the average attendance satisfactory. The school will be closed to-day when the teachers will be attending the drill instruction course at Hornby. Mrs T. G. Ware (Okain's Bay) is the guest of Mr and Mrs John Ware. Mr Sarsfield Flood (Dunedin) was visiting Ladbrooks last week. HORNBY. The Hornby School Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday evening, Mr F. A! McTeigue presiding. Those present were Messrs J. Allen, W Richardson, K. A. McDonald, G. Taylor, and A. Tippet. _ The headmaster, Mr F. O'Flynn, reported that the roll number for February was 298, and the average attendance was 282. The roll number at the end o'f the month was 296. The School Committee approached the Paparoa County Council to see it it would be willing to form a footpath along Factory road from the store to the school, and the committee was advised of the Council's approval in this matter.
