EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS.
PENSIONS FOR WIDOWS AND CHILDREN. (press association TEUSGBAM.) WELLINGTON, March 9. At a meeting of the Central Earthquake Relief Committee, the Et. Hon, , G. W. Forbes presiding, It was decided that £43,000 be set aside to provide pensions for earthquake widows and orphans, and grants for injured persons. The basis of payment of pensions is to be 22s 6d per week for widows, and 15s per week for each child. Deduc L tions will be made in cases where the widow's pension is already being - received, but not in respect of old-age pensions. Pension payments commence from January Ist last. It is understood that the initial disbursements will be made in the course of nex* week. It was also decided that all loans for the restoration of houses not exceeding £ 100 in any individual case be treated as free grants not subject to being called up. .
