ASHBURTON. FANCIERS' SOCIETY. A meeting of the General Committee of the Ashburton Fanciers' Society Wai held On Tuesday, when Mr A. Nicoll presided. Mr O. Digby was welcomed as a new member of the committee. Messrs W. H. Robinson and G. Bundy were appointed a sub-coihttiittee to ar range for special prizes. Messrs J! Broker and T. Rattray were thanked for gifts of a sheep and a trio ol' Barred Rocks respectively, Quinnat Salmon Run. A good r«m of quinnat salmon, which commenced on Tuesday and continued until yesterday morning, took place in tho Rangitatu river. Practically every angler secured at least ono fish. About the heaviest fish was a fine specimen, weighing iOlb, landed by Mr N. Hosken. At daybreak yesterday 23 rods wcr;> out round the mouth. A feature of the run was the large average size of tho fish, quite a number turning the scales round about 301b. Rugby Union Officers. Nominations for president ami two vice-presidents of the Ashburton llugby Union closed at midnight last night. Up to a late hour the nominations of last year's officers,. Mr W. H. The first meeting of the Ashburton Advisory Committee in connexion with the Disabled Soldiers' Civil Re-establish-mcnt Act (1930) was held last evening! There were present:—Messrs E. H. Orr and S. A. Hickman (secretary), representing the Ashburton Returned Soldiers' Association; R. Kerr (Chamber of Commerce), and W. E. Leadlcy (Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association). Mr Leadley, who presided, dealt with the provisions of. the Act, stating that members of the 1 Expeditionary Force in the Great "War and also any who served in the South African War came Within the scope of the regulations. The object was to assist those whose ability to obtain suitable employment had been impaired by physical or mental disability irrespective of whether they were receiving a pension under the Wftr Pensions Act. That afternoon h<S had interviewed a number of returned soldiers receiving economic pensions and particulars of their disabilities and suggestions for suitable avenues of employment for them were supplied for consideration^
