In reply lo representations made on behalf of the Society seeking permission for its Inspector to carry a revolver to dispatch stock or animals. Mr Clyde Carr, M.P., forwarded letters from Ministers stating that there was no power to grant a permit without, payment of the fee. It was stated that Mr T. D. Burnett. AlcKirilcy. r Lhe annua! general meeting of the Geraldine Football Club was held on Tuesday night, tho president (Mr JKennedy) presiding. The annual report tinted that the season had been a difficult one for the club, largely owing to a drop in tho membership. The club had been represented by teams in the Timaru, Pleasant Point, and Geraldine scven-a-side tournaments The balanco-shce', showed that the receipts amounted to £lO 14s 7d, and the expenditure to £7 19s 7d, leaving n credit balance of £2 15s. The secretary (Mr M. Hayes) explained that accounts amounting to about £l2, including Geraldine Do main Board, £7 10s for rent, and South Canterbury Rugbv Union, £3 3s, affiliation fees, remained unpaid. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The electio'n of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P.; president, Mr J. Kennedy; vicepresidents, Messrs J. Angland, G. Webb, J. Earl, AY, H. Jackson; delepate to South Canterbury Rugby Union. Mr A. 11. Clemens. A circular letter was received from the New Zealand Rugbv Union recommending all affiliated* unions to adopt the 3 —"2 —8 serum formation, and abolish the wing-foiward. Mr Loach, who recommended that the South Canterbury Rugby Union should adhere to the 2—3—2 formation, pointed out that one of the Timaru clubs had urged that the wingforward should he retained. The recommendation was seconded by Mr M. * Hayes, and carried. • In regard to the South Canterbury competitions, it was decided to recommend that the committee consider

entering teams in the Senior A grade, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. A meeting of the newly-elected committee was held at the conclusion of the annual meeting. Mr G. Loach was appointed chairman WAIMATE. I lie chairman (Mr W. F. George) presided at the monthly meeting of the Waimate School Committee. The headmaster (Mr D. C. Brown) reported that the roll-number was boys and 287 girls, a total of 570, wlule the average attendance lor the month was 260 boys, and 2G9 gil-ls, a total ot 529. The percentage of attendance was 92.8. During the month the potato crop,. which promised to be satisfactory, would be dug, and tlie plot cleaned ready for wintering. It was decided to allow the school to close on April 7th for the sports. The Canterbury Education Board wrote appealing to school committees not to waste water. Since the Board had undertaken the whole cost of water the amount used had increased alarmingly, but the Board did not desire to take the drastic step of reverting to the system of committees paying half the cost. The chairman said the "Waimate School was not charged through a meter, but was on a flat rate. The letter was received. The chairman reported that Inspector Bryce had visited the dental clinic. It was understood there was no chance of a second nurse. At any rate, the necessary money could not be raised. As it was, nothing had been paid on behalf of many children treated at the clinic, but a request should be sent to parents, especially as some people had contributed, and as yet had received no benefit from the clinic. He added that some defaulting parents could easily afford to pay. The secretary was instructed to have appeal cards printed, these to be distributed by the nurse to the children receiving treatment. Accounts amounting to £9 lis ou were passed for payment. The secretary reported that the annual picnic, held on Thursday, would result in a profit of about 13s 4d.
