FIGHTING CANCER.

EMPLOYMENT OF RADIUM. ENCOURAGING RESULTS CLAIMED. (press association telegbam.) AUCKLAND, March 8. The encouraging results in the treatment of cancer with radium obtained at the Auckland Clinic were announced by Mr Kenneth Mackenzie at a public meeting held under the auspices of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society. "Those engaged in cancer research in Auckland," said Mr Mackenzie, "are going to place before their colleagues the results obtained with radium which could not have been obtained years ago. Some are almost in the nature of miracles. I i not over-emphasising the importance of radium, as it as yet is only in limited classes of cases that it can be used, .but among those cases are some of the most distressing that can bo sufferr '. Negotiations are in progress for the purchase of more radium for Auckland. Some funds are available, and these will be put to use in the near future." LONDON SURGEON TO ADDRESS MEETINGS. (PftBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, March 8. An arrival by the Aorangi from Sydney this morning was Mr C. H. Fagge, F.R.C.S., senior surgeon at Guy's Hospital, and vice-president of the British Medical Association. He has come to New Zealand to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association. During his visit to Australia he acted as nominee of the Royal College of Surgeons of England to represent it at the surgical congress in Australia. Mr Fagge, who is accompanied by Mrs Fagge, said he would remain in New Zealand until March 24th, and then leave for London by the Eangitiki. He hoped to go to Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin in connexion with the British Empire Cancer Campaign movement, and would address meetings at Auckland and Wellington.
