BOROUGH COUNCILS
KAIAPOI. The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held lasfc night. Present: The Mayor (Rei. W; H. A. Yickery), Councillors A. E. . Brown, C. M. Williams, M. Ramsay, P. Thome, J. W: Barnard, H. Binaldi, J. D. Williams, and R. I. Dunn. Dr, A. Vivian, (ChrietohurcW. -wrote.; apply; ins for the lease of a section . at Kairaki and also for the-right to section 12 on t the , new. plan as-a reserve.- The letter referred to the "Reserves Committee. _ Mr B.'J. Ager wrote submitting plans of a bach to be erected at the Pines for the ; Council's approval. The plan was approved,, subject ,to the borough by-laws. ■ i Mr A. Gordon wrote" applying, for permission to erect a garage on his property in Smith street. Permission was granted.' i The Minister for Education - wrote advising | that ' the - handing oyer of the old school | buildings and rite to the Borough Council | had been agreed to, the Council to meet all i coßts in connexion with the transfer. The. letter was. received. ■ , The secretary, Canterbury Education! Board, also advised that approval : had been i given for the. handing over of the old school, buildings and site to the Kaiapoi Borough | Council, and (hat steps would now be taken j to effect the transfer. The letter wsts i received. The. secretary, Kaiapoi W.E.A. classes, wrote 'asking permission to use the Council Chambers .for holding a meeting to arrange the classes for the. coming season. Permission wag granted.. • The District Engineer,. New Zealand Bailways, wrote applying for permission to traverse the borough roads in connexion with the removal of a house from Bennetts to Kaiapoi, the house to be placed on railway property in Hilton street. The Mayor stated that the house had been brought into the borough that' day without the Council's permission. A motion was carried that the Council, protest against the Railway Department's action. ' The director, Kaiapoi Technical School, wrote applying for a grant from* the Coun"il towards the sohool funds. The letter!: was referred to the Finance • Committee. ' ' Mr W. H. Stevens, consulting engineer, Rangiora, wrote forwarding a report on drainage for the borough, together, with plans, and advised that he would be pleased to meet the Council at any time and give them any further information required. It ' was decided. that the Health Committee should consider the report, %nd that H -be submitted to a special meeting of the Council to be held next Tuesday. The By-laws Committee - submitted a scale of charges for lenting rooms in. the old school buildings, ivhich was adopted. ; The financial statement -showed receipts ! since last meeting of £643 18s, a debit bank I balance of £1446 4a 9d,, and accounts passed for payment at £486 14a Bd.
