OBITUARY.
« —— MR J. F. ATKINSON. (PBBSB ASSOCIATION TXLEGBAJt) AUCKLAND, March 8. When the Aorangi was at anchor in. the stream< this morning her ensign was at half-mast, signifying a death on board. Mr John P. Atkinson, aged 78, a first-class passenger, died suddenly at 8.30 on Sunday morning. Ha was born in the United States, and waa a well known building • contractor in Los Angeles, as well as a member ot th© Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce; Mr Atkinson was a passenger to New Zealand and Australia in the Matson liner Mariposa, when she visited Auckland on February 20th, on herPacino cruise. He left the Mariposa m Sydney, and was returning to Vancouver by the, Aorangi en route to his home. - MR SAMUEL ROSEVEARE. The death occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs A. Gray, of Mr Samuel Roseveare, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents ot' Glonroy. Mr Roseveare, who was 76 years o* age, was born in Devonshire, England, in 1856, and came out to New Zealand at the ago of 17 to join his brothers in Otago, later taking up farming on his own account in the Clinton district. In 1887 he married Miss E. Ridgen, of Greendale, and from Clinton, Mr and Mrs Roseveare came to Greendale in 1892, and eventually settled at "Rockwood," where he. resided until the time of his death. Mr Roseveare was a staunch supporter of tho Methodist Church, and in this connexion especially his will be greatly missed. He took a keen, interest in social and church activities and at Clinton was Precenter in the' Presbyterian Church for eight years, later becoming a local preacher and Bible Class leader m the Greendale circuit. Mr Roseveare posted a cheerful disposition, and his familiar figure, his readiness in making friends, and his hospitality were traits that endeared him to ap who had made his acquaintance. He is survived by hiß wife, four daughters, and four sons.
