ACCIDENTS.

ELDERLY WOMAN DIES FROM SHOCK. KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTORCYCLE. (miss ASSOCIATION TSLJEGE4.M:) MASTERTON, March 6. An elderly woman, Mrs Sarali Shaw, aged 73, the wife of Mr Thomas Shaw, of Greytown, a farmer, was knocked down by a motor-cycle ridden by Balph John Staples, of Masterton, on the main Greytown road shortly after 11 o 'clock on Saturday night. Herbert White, of Wellington., was on the pillion seat of tlio cycle. Mrs Shaw sustained a broken leg and arm, and subsequently died from shock at midnight at her residence. She was apparently confused by the light of the cycle, which was proceeding on its correct side, and walked right Into it. CHILD ATTACKED BY SOW. SEVERE INJURIES RECEIVED. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM') ( HAMILTON, March 5. Severe injuries were inflicted on an cigliteen-months male child by an infuriated sow on Mr W. R. llobertss farm set Rukubia yesterday. The child had a narrow escape from death. Air Russell Cooper, of Hamilton, the father of the infant, and a four-year-old boy were visiting Mr Roberts. The children wefe left m a motor trucic. Later Miss Roberts, glancing out of a window, was horrified to eeo the sow mauling the baby in the paddcx* Rushing out, she beat the sow off,, but not before the infant had receive J Severe bend injuries and bruises. JOCKEY INJURED. D. Cotton, a jockey, of 65 Carlton Mill road, while riding in the Highweight Handicap at the Motukarara races on Saturday, was thrown from his horse. Ho was admitted to., the Clirigtehurch Hospital about 4.30 p.m., suffering from injuries to his ankle and back and internal injuries.. Yesterday he was reported to be progressing satisfactorily. INJURED IN COLLISION. Joseph Harrison, aged 17 years, living at 22 Radnor street, St. Albans, collided with a motor-car while crossing the corner of Philip and Tuam streets on his motor cycle early last evening. He suffered internal injuries and injuries to his left hip, and was admitted to the Hospital at 7.25 p.m. His Condition is not serious.
