CANTERBURY A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL REPORT. ■ The annual 'general meeting of the Canterbury A. and P. Association will be held in the Association's rooms on Thursday, April 17th, at 8 p.m. The j annual report for the year is as fol- ' lows: — ' J Since the last annual meeting the Association has lost by death two of, 1 its former officers, Mr J. G. Herdman, 1 who filled the presidential chair in t 1929, and Mr H. Overton, who was presi- i dent in 1892. Both gentlemen ac- ~ complished valuable work for the Association over a long period. , Balance-Sheet. < •The balance-sheet, for the first time 1 for several years past,' shows a substantial loss on the year's working, the , capital'account being reduced by £1575 18s 7d. This is mainly for 1 by Che reduction in the profit of the ' November Show. Receipts on-practically all accounts fell away, considerably. ' The committee has endeavoured to im- ; prove the grounds as much as possible , within the means at its disposal, and, prior to the Royal Show, several of the ! buildings were painted. This work, to- " getlier with what had been carried out : in the previous year, improved appreciably the appearance of the grounds. Membership —The membership of the Association stands at 1725, made up of 371 life members' and 1354 annual members. The number of resignations this year was higher than usual, and the roll was purged of all members unduly in arrears. Winter Show —The fifth Winter Show, conducted under the joint auspices of this Association and the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association, was held in August; but the Associations this year decided to devote the proceeds towards paying the debenture interest of the Canterbury" Hall Co., Ltd. In spite of difficult trading conditions, a profit of , £557 was made, and there is in the hands of the Winter Show Executive £490 unallocated balances brought forward from previous Winter Shows. This amount is being carried forward. A decision has been made to hold the Show again in King Edward Barracks in August. Ram Pair—The Rain Fair held in 1931 proved very successful, though there • was again an over-supply of Corriedales. The offering of English Leicesters and. Southdowns sold particularly well. Royal Show—The Royal Show was held on November 11th, 12th, and 13th, and drew a particularly good entry, there being 3338 entries, a total only eclipsed on the occasion of the'l92s Royal Show. Both the sheep and cattle sections filled remarkably well, and the standard generally of the stock was highly creditable. The Grand Parade of stock was a trully magnificent display, and again tho implement section was comprehensive and highly interesting. .The officers of the Railway Department did all possible to expedite transport of exhibits, and the thanks of the Association are due to the Addington stationmaster and his staff. The committee wishes to thank all tjiose who contributed to the prize fund. Flock Competition—An innovation this year was the holding of_ a Southdown flock competition, which took place in April. The entry was a good one, and the committee is hopeful that these competitions will raise the general standard of stud flocks. An Eng-1 lish Leicester Ewe Competition will be I held in May. • I Members are requested to liote that the record of the Royal Sho* is apI pended to this report, and thatvthe committee has decided not to issue the usual journal this year. This decision is made | reluctantly, but as a measure of I economy. l . Balance-Sheet. 1 >. The balance-sheet for the year ending ! December. 31st, 1931, is as follows:
