* • BOWLING. In the semi-final of tlie championship singles T. Palmer beat S. Sinclair. Picnics. Pupils from the Amberley School and parents held their annual pienie at Corsair Bay on Saturday. The annual pienie of St. John's Presbyterian Church was held at Diamond Harbour on Saturday. The annual staff picnic of E. T. Deane and Co. was. held at Diamond Harbour on Saturday. Swimming. The weather was dull and cold for the Lyttelton Ladies' Swimming Club's championship events, which were held in the dock on Saturday afternoon, and there was a poor attendance of spectators. Owing to insufficient entries being received the 50yds championship Tvas postponed. Results were: — 100 yds Championship for Mrs Colin Cook's Cup—Ruth Morris 1, Jessie Gilray 2, Mary Pitcaithly 3. Miss Morris took the lead soon after the start. Jsearing the finishing line she put in a splendid sprint arid won by. seven seconds. Miss Gilray beat Miss Pitcaithly for second- place on the touch. The other starters were Betty Weastell, Pauline Shayle-George, and Olga Davis. Relay Race —Jessie Gilray, Ruth Morris, and Honor Plimmer 1; Mary Pitcaithly, Pauline Shayle-George, and Mavis Gilray 2; Betty Weastell, Betty Bowling, and Olga Davis 3. Magistrate's Court. At the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, before Messrs P. E. Sutton and W. T. Foster, J.P.'s, Robert Patterson, aged 39 years, a native of Scotland, was charged with drunkenness, with using obscene language, and with assaulting Constable C. Jackaways, in the execution of his duty. He pleaded guilty to drunkenness, but in regard to the other two charges said he did not remember the occurrence. Constable A. A. Baynes gave evidence that be had seen accused outside the Mitre Hotel. He was drunk and had used obscene language to witness and Constable Jackaways in the hearing of p&sscrS'by# Constable C. Jackaways said that on Friday afternoon he saw accused being put out of the Mitre Hotel by two barmen. He tried to re-enter by another door, but was again ejected. Accused then used the obscene language. When searching accused in the watch-house, witness went to put his hand inside accused's breast-pocket. Accused bit witness's little linger to the bone. The Bench said they took a very serious view of the offences. Accused would be convicted and discharged for drunkenness. For using obscene language he would be fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment, and for the assualt he would be fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment, the terms to be cumulative. An application by accused for time to pay was refused. Diamond Harbour Golf Club. The annual meeting of the Diamond Harbour Golf Club was,held in the pavilion on Saturday afternoon, Mr L. F. Blewett presiding oyer a large attendance of members. The annual report stated that during the season several inter-club matches had been played, and the usual club competitions carried out. Thanks were due, to the lady members for catering for the inter-club matches. The balance-sheet, showed an actual credit over payments of £3 18s 9d ana two further payments had been made of the amount owing on the pavilion section. A motor-mower liad been purchased. The total profit for the year amounted to £49. The excess of assets over liabilities was £366 10s sd. The president complimented the club, on its financial position, and expressed a hope that the ensuing, season would be as enjoyable as those that had passed. Proposals had been made for the improvement and extension of the links, which could be considered at a later date. The thanks of the club were due to the secretary, who had earned out his duties in an efficient inanner. The election of officers resulted , as follows: —President, Mr L. Blewett; vice-presidents, Messrs E. R udkin ana F. Cartwright; captain, Mr D. Gower; secretary, Mr A. G. Sinclair; trustees, Messrs W. C. Cleary and E., Ma,zey; handicappers, Messrs W. C. Cleary and J H Collins; committee, Messrs -N. Thompson, W. C. Cleary, T. Bowring, J. H. Collins, Allan Jackson, G. Cooper, E. Mazey, and W. Paine. Two new members were elected. It was decided to admit week-day members, the fees to be: Ladies 15s, and men £1 Is a year. Such members will be allowed to play during the week, but not on Sundays, and will not be allowed to take part in any matches. It was decided to hold the opening day on Saturday, March 19th, with the usual competitions: Golf. The Lyttelton Golf Club played their medal matches at Charteris 1 Ba,y yesterday and some good cards were handed in. The best were: — ' -C. Plimmer ~ 89 —£3—66 A. Anderson . ' ..." 92—26—66 N.
