A HOT DAY.
YESTERDAY'S TEMPERATURE IN THE CITY. Yesterday was the hottest day but one this summer. The maximum temperature in the shade yesterday, on figures supplied by the Christeliurch Observatory, was 86 degrees, and the maximum in the sun was 145 degrees. The hottest day that Christchurch has experienced since October was on January 23rd last, when a temperature of 88.2 degrees was recorded hi the shade at the Observatory. On that day the exposed thermometer read at 149 degrees. The heat and nor'-west wind on January 23rd made conditions, extremely trying in the City, and yesterday, despite the fact that only a light north wind was blowing, the heat was oppressive at times.
