ADDINGTON MARKET.

WEDNESDAY'S SALE: Any comparison thai is made in the prices ruling at the metropolitan muiket on Wednesday is of little use as far as the fat stock sections are concerned, as short entries forced sharp advances in most instances. The probabilities are that thoso who rush stock forward hoping for. simliar conditions at next week's sale will be disappointed. The store sheep section at 'Addington at this time of the season loses a great deal of its interest since the values .for the adult sheep - are established at the ewe fairs. Values at Addington this week wore m*ich on a par with thoso ruling at the Amberley ewe fair. The quality of the entry was very nondescript, and- -it' appeared that buyfers were tinging judgment with risk ,in some instances. The lambs offered in the store pens sold very keenly with the demand maintained throughout. The. following table shows a comparison of values at this week's market with those;ruling at the corresponding market last year:— ' Mar. 4, Mar, 2, 1931. . 1982. i. ; ~ s> i. The entry of 2000 fat lambs was one. of the smallest for this period that .has, been j:eco.r^d. a,tAddi»gtw ; market . for. inahy-yedrs,'arid' as 'a. result it was: a sale contested by butchers mainly. One export company took a small portion of the offering. The advance, as explained, was due to the shortness of the entry, ■ and. the - butchers' desire; to make sure of securing' snfficient to meet for the local trade week. , ,

One has to go back some time to recall a ' similar sale in the fat sheep section to that of Wednesday. The demand fairly "galloped" "along, with the best sheep in ca,sea showing an advance oil last week's rates of a startling amount. TJp to 8s a head, was. the gain on some sheep which'met 'this market ■ and the one which preceded it, but the average advance for prime . sorts was 4s to 5s a hea!d. - Medium and inferior. sorts advanced to a extent. The entry of 1700 fat slieep was a remarkably small one. Comparisons :

The quota of beef needed to meet, local requirements of one week has fallen considerably during the last > tw.o years and 260 head cannot be termed a very short market to-day. Tho sale was slightly irregular, having a lapse in the middle stagps, but generally it was very keen and a total clearance of all saleable sorts was made.
