SUPREME COURT. FRIDAY. ' (Before his Honour Mr Justice Adams.) PRISONERS SENTENCED. RECEIVED STOLEN GOODSJ Arthur Charles Bunting, who pleaded guilty in the lower Court to six charges of receiving stolen goods, was admitted to probation ior a period of -two years. He was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution and make restitution of the goods as the Probation Officer directs. He was also or* dqrtkl to report weekly to tbe Probation Officer. His Honour stated that accused had not been before the Court previously and the Probation Officer recommended probation. THEFT FROM FIRM. Clifford Atkinson appeared lor sentence on changes of theft as a servant. Counsel for accused pleaded that under ■ extreme stress of domestic circumstances Atkinson had taken money from his firm. Ho was _an Australian, and had come to New Zealand on account of his wife's health. Counsel pleaded for the olemency of probation. Accused would be able to make restitution. The amount involved was. £49. Counsel for the prosecution agreed that the case was one for probation. His Honour admitted accused tp probation fot two years, an order being made for costs ana for restitution of the amount stolen, in monthly instalments of £2, "the first payment to be made by April Ist. * BREAKING AND ENTERING. _i_ John Eric Harding, on five charges of breaking and entering a Shop and committing theft, on two concerning a warehouse and one of- entering a counting-house, with tlieft, was oxdered to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding three years. > PROBATION REFUSED. On a charge of indecent assault on a female, David Francis Ta,nner" was ordered to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding two -years. ' His Honour, on the report supplied to him by the Probation Officer, refused to grant accused's reqt.est for probation. MAORI CHARGED. Jame3 Hardy, oharged with unlawful carnal' knowledge, was ordered to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding two years. Accused asked for probation. The Crown Prosecutor stated that accused had a bad character among his own people, the Maoris, and had frequently been brought before, the council in his district for misconduct. SENTENCE© TO IMPRISONMENT. For an attempted unnatural offence, Archie Major was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, thereafter to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding five years. Counsel for Major pleaded that the man was of subnormal mind. He was single and aged 55. "This is one of those offences absolutely repellent to human nature," eaid his Honour. "It seems obvious that the prisoner ouffht to be examined, in order to ascertain his mental condition. It is the Court's duty to see that ho is not left free to commit other offences of this nature." CHARGES OF FORGERY. Jjeslie Alwyn Olson McKenzie, on eix charges of forgery and uttering, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, thereafter to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding two yeara. "Accused has a list of convictions," eaid his Honour. "In 1921 he was sentenced on two charges of theft, in 1927 he was sent to Borstal for theft, and "later he escaped from custody and was sent to Borstal for three years. The Probation Officer's report 6eems to show that the man •is apparently incorrigible, and must bo dealt with accordingly." MAGISTERIAL. FRIDAY. (Before Mr E. D.
