OLD CUNARDER AS "FLATS."
A syndicate of Norwegian business men are planning to buy the old Cuuard liner Carmania (20,000 tons), moor her at Oslo and convert her into something between a board-uig-houso and a biock of flats, giving accommodation for about 2000 people at reasonable rents during the present housing shortage. The price mentioned for the liner is £28,000. H.M.S. VERONICA. DUE AT LYTTELTON THIS MONTH. H.M.S. Veronica is due at Lyttelton on March 24th, and will remain in port until April Bth» THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER. Canadian Notional Steamships have received advice that the Canadian Challenger reached Halifax on February 26th. She left Dunedin on January 9th for New York, Boston, nad Halifax, via Panama. THE WATERFRONT.
BUSY NEXT WEEK. The port will bo very busy during noxt week. Five overseas vessels nre due by Monday and four more by the end of the week. The vessels due are the Coptic, Kent, Golden Cloud, and Somerset to-morrow, the Port Alma on Monday, the Ardenvohr and the Canadian Conqueror on Wodnesday, the Taranaki on Friday, and the Rangitiki on Saturday. FISHING LAUNCH ADRIFT. RESCUED BY H.M.S. WAKAKURA. On Tuesday last, at 10.15 a.m., the minesweeper Walcakura, while steaming between Timaru and Akaroa, sighted a launch drifting and displaying distress signals. It proved to be the Ashing launch Mary Ann, of Timaru, with her engine disabled through a broken big-end. Tho launch, which Is owned by John Wilson, was taken in tow to Akaroa, where repairs were effected. MINE-SWEEPER ARRIVES. « WAKAKURA AT LYTTELTON. An unexpected arrival at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon was the mine-sweeper kura, from Dunedin, via Akaroa. She brought a party of Dunedin Naval Volunteer Reservists, who will leave by this morning's express for Dunedin. The Wakakura will carry out Naval Volunteer Reserve training from Lyttelton, and is to sail on Saturday next with a section of tho Christchurch Company on a training cruise, with Akaroa as a base. The Wakakura will spend two weeks out of each three at sea and at Akaroa, and each third week in port at Lyttelton. She is to leave Lyttelton on April 26tlr for Wellington. TRANS-PACIFIC SERVICE.
