Acceptances for the Waimate Ra .ing Club's Annual Meeting will close <m Tuesday. rtrst Time Out. Three two-year-olds will be making their initial appearances in public in the Motukarara Juvenile Stakes to-day. Grampian is a chestnut gelding by-Ro-bespierre from Watermint, by Greyspear from Waterspray. He has done a good deal of galloping and-promises well with a little more time. He :s owned by his breeder, Mr W A. JSuholls, and will bo ridden to-day by U. J. Ellis. Scarlet Robe is a brown geirtine by Robespierre from Bonsign, by Boniform, owned by his breeder, J. H Prosser. He is a big-boned youngster, and is not likely to show much form until next season. Irish Lady, trained by E. Scoullar for Mr W. r. Hazlett, is a brown filly by Grand Knight from Sprig of Erin, dam or Father o'Flvnn. She is on the small side as yet," but shows plenty of quality and gives signs of developing into a, smart galloper.
•ptffurant Conditions. The good showing made by Azalea in the Midsummer Handicap last month '■would point to her prospects in the Peninsula Cup to-day, but track conditions have to be taken into consideration. In the former event nearly half of the field suffered through the soft going, and this gave Azalea her chance to act as pacemaker with 7-0 on her baclc. On the higher scale of weights adopted in to-day's race ,she will have 171b more to carry, and as the track ■will suit some of those who finished behind her at Biccarton, she may not be able to show so much prominence, especially over tbe business stages. A Yotuig Steeplechaser.
The young steeplechaser, Thurina,, has rejoined the active brigade at Biccarton And is again an inmate of Mrs J. i Campbell's stable. He has courts back < in very solid condition, due to regular exercise given him by bis part-owner, "W. Doyle, and ho will not require much serious work to get him into racing trim.
y?ngHtth Yearling Sales An analysis of tho results of the 1 yearling sales in England shows that (^Gainsborough's son, Solario, for whose possession tho Aga Khan offered 00,000, his main object being to secure him for stud purposes before his racing career had closed, realised the last average, eight of his thirty odd , goals realising an average of 1603 guineas each. Next on the list came ' Tetratema, whose six realised an average of 1310 guineas. Colorado (dead) with a dozen had the flue average of, 1086 guineas. Phalaris (dead) had eleven which averaged 957 guineas each. Gainsborough's fourteen averaged 908 guineas.' Blandford's nine made 855 guineas. SansoVino's seventeen averaged 849 guineas. Papyrus with v eleven averaged 791 guineas, and these were followed by Spion Kop's fifteen with an average of 694 guineas. Friar Marcus. Bucban, and Hurry On were others ' "whoso averages were over 500 guineas.

Principal interest will centre in the Australian Cup, two miles and a quarter, for which the final acceptors were as follows:—Second Wind 9-11, Vertigern 8-4, Mira Donna 8-4, Prince Dayton 8-2, Ormolu 7-12, St. Frederick 7-10, Glaive 7-7, Inducement 7-7, Nadean 7-6, Alcman 7-5, Blather-

Lloyd Stakes, a vrcight for age event, one mile, will also be of much interest, as the nominations include tlio names of Middle Watch, Ammon Ra, Greenline, Waterline, Lady Pam, Johnnie Jason, Movie Star, and Lady Linden. The Ascot Vale Stakes, for two-year-olds, will also be decided, and in this Vauntry, Powerscourt, Sanbailat, Agomoni, Kuvera, and Closing Time are amongst those carded. First Acre's Record.
The news from Melbourne that First Acre has strained a tendon, and will be retired from the turf, will be regretted by all who admire a thoroughbred, and such an "iron horse" and consistent performer as First Acre has been. Now in his ninth year, First Acre was the first progeny of that successful sire, Acre, whose stock has done so well in this Dominion. By Acre out of Oka, First Acre has contested no fewer than 109 races in New Zealand, where he has won £4096 in stakes. His record here is 109 starts, 17 wins, 13 seconds, and 15 third placings. His two beßt seasons were as a three-year-old when he won £1220, and as a four-year-old, when his stake earnings reached £2176. On the first mentioned occasion he contested 27 races, and during his next year he faced the barrier on no fewer than 39 occasions. During the past three seasons, First Acre has done most of his racing in Australia, where his victories have been even more pronounced than those he registered in New Zealand. TROTTING NOTES. May be Bun In Divisions. Provision has been made for the running of the trotting events at Motukarara in divisions. Should the size of the fields warrant this procedure, the latest amendment to the handicapping system will come into operation. It reads: "The compulsory clause in Table 1 shall not apply to races that have been run in heats or divisions. In the case.of the Wairewa Handicap the penalty for horses which have not won a race, in ordinary circumstances, would have been a compulsory 36 yards but the compulsory Tule will not apply in the event of the race being decided in divisions, the penalty being imposed at the discretion of . the handicapper. The sum of £45 to the winner of each division so it is unlikely, that the penalty will be as severe as that under the compulsory rule. The fiame applies to the Waihora Park Handicap with the exception that the compulsory penalty for the distance of this race, one mile and a half, is 48 yards for horses winning their first race. Had no Recent Form.
Lady Voisin, winner of the Invcrcargill Cup yesterday, is an aged mare by Cathedral Chimes from a Bellman mare, and prior to her most recent success she had not won a race since November, 1929. The Novices.
Horses making their first appearance in a race to-day at tho Motukarara fixture arc Parramatta, a six-year-old marc by Bodgerwood from a Lord of tho Isles nrare, trained by A. G. Wilson; Grand Finale, a five-year-old gelding by Brent Locanda from Welcome, trained by A. Davey; Betty Axworthy, a five-yiar-old mare by Travis Axworthy from Lady Bothersay; Loeanda Lass, a four-year-old filly by Brent Locanda from Logan Lass, trained by B. J. Humphreys; Dolly Huon, a five-year-old mare by Denver'Huon from The Linnet, trained by W. Begg; and Victoreen, a three-year-old filly by Wrack from Victoria, trained by B. J. Humphreys.
Bright Prospects; A trotter with -outstanding prospects at the Wellington Meeting to-day is the Ashburton-owned and trained mare Quincey Thorpe, who claims two engagements. On handicaps she should account for a race as she beat practically the same horses as she has to meet to-day rather pointlessly at New Brighton last week.
Scratchings at Motukarara. Simey and St. Felix 'have been sjratched for both trotting events at Motukarara to-day. On Parade has been scratched, for the Waihora Park Handicap and Grand Finale for the Wairewa Trotting Handicap. Brackets at Wellington.
Horses competing at Wellington today will be bracketed on tho machine as follows: —Armstrong Memorial Handicap: Colonial Boy and Stanley T.; March Handicap: Automatic and Sister Bose; Au Bevoir Handicap: Arachne and Warplane; Grand Gahyon and Morning Sun. Dispersal Sale.

SUMMER MEETING.
PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY.
The interest of Canterbury racegoers will be centred in the Summer Meeting of the Banks Peninsula Racing Club to be held on the well-equipped Motukarara racecourse to-day. These fixtures have always been popular with the public, as apart from the usual good racing provided the grounds are admirably adapted for a picnic outing, and are within reasonable distance from Christchurch and surrounding districts. On this occasion, the fields are all made up of good class horses, and several of them have more important engagements to fill in the next month, so tlmt form throughout will bo closely followed. lo suit the convenience of City patrons, the first race will not start until 1 p.m., but thirty-five minute intervals will be observed and tho programme is timed to conclude at 5.20 p.m. The efforts of the officials to adhere as closely as possible to the time-table advertised a«. the last Meeting at Motukarara were appreciated by all concerned, and it is hoped that similar conditions will prevail to-day. The track is well provided with a sole of grass, as a result of the recent rain, and tho going should be excellent. A special passenger train will leave Christchurch at 11.15 a.m., stopping, it required, at Addington, Sockbura. Hornby, Prebbleton, and Lincoln only, and arriving at the rac, 3CoU "® p.m. This train will leave Motukarara at 6.5 p.m., arriving in the City at j. p.m.

The form of all candidates lias been freely exposed of late, but that displayed at the Midsummer Meeting is not likely to act as a useful guide, as the track conditions to-day will bp quite different •from those existing at Biccarton, The change will be appreciated by some, including Don Jose and Biri, but will not favour others such as Martian Chief, Adelphi, and Minerval. Ball Drefts will not find the ground to her liking, but there should be no excuse for Shatter, who has only to race up to his track form to be a dangerous proposition. Taku Tama is entitled to much respect following his attractive win at Eiccarton last month. Arrowmir lias evidently lost none of his pace, but seven furlongs will find him out. The rain which commenced falling about an hour prior to the commencement of the racing spoiled the first day of the Invercargill Trotting Club's Meeting, and also upset the chances of wellfancied candidates.
Man o' Franz led neariy all the way in the Maiden Handicap and won very easily. Matchless Bingen, who was f. good favourite, did not go away well and skipped at the eiid of three furlongs,. .
The Central Otago-owned and trained Wild Ridge took charge over the last half mile in the Monowai Handicap and easily beat a good favourite in Kamaldar. Worthy Merit was well supported, but failed to settle down.
Princess Thorpe came very fast over the last two furlongs to snatch victory from Country Guy in the Crescent Handicap. Nelson's Fortune, a pronounced favourite, failed to go away at the start.
Erin's Fair led. Prairie King and Lady Yoisin to the straight in the. Invercargill Cup. Then the last-named drew out to win comfortably from War Paint, who left the commencement of a fast finishing run too late. Manoeuvre, who was a good second choice, did not appear able to handle the going, and never really was prominent. • Blue Mountain, who haß failed to leave the mark in his last half dozen starts in harness, moved better in saddle, and made no race of the Thomson Handicap, scoring the easiest win of the day. . ' Earl Bingen and Sea Mist, the two best backed in the Travis Memorial Handicap, were well beaten by an outsider in Sunny Gold who, after going away badly, swamped the opposition for pace over the last half mile. Manoeuvre, who was made a good favourite in the Members' Handicap, was badly interfered with at the start and had no chance. Goldwood was well placed throughout the last mile and won well. Matchmaker was slow to move away, and never threatened danger. Molly Desborougli, with the going to suit her, was made a pronounced favourite in the Takitimu Handicap, and after allowing John Logan to lead her for six furlongs drew out to win very easily from Speckled Gold. Deste, who was a good third favourite, failed to handle the going, which by this time had been cut up rather badly.

The Wellington T.C. will hold its Meeting at Hutt Park to-day. While the fields- are not large, there is ample, material engaged to ensure good contests and class is well represented throughout the programme. As usual, Canterbury horses predominate, I and it is expected that there will be a good, representation of Christchurch sportsmen at the fixture, which has been increasingly popular with each Meeting that has been held. The programme is as follows: — 18.10 p.m.— INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP, Of 130 sovs. Bmin S7sec class. One mile end five furlongs.
