A FAULTY CABLE.

A fault has developed in one of the Eastern Extension (Australasia and China) Telegraph Company's cables between Wellington and Sydney, and the cable steamer Iris is to carry out the necessary repair work. The cable is functioning as usual, but it is considered that a break might occur, so the Iris is to call at Wellington on Tuesday from Auckland, and after taking in cable and bunkers will put out to sea to locate the fault, which is about 500 miles from Wellington.; - The time the . work will take will depend- upon the •weather conditions.; "Sa ;
