Conditions at Home.
In England thero has been a falling off in entries for various races, and a .prominent English owner stated that this was due to 80 many owners being unable to carry on under existing condition*: The cost of running a horse •jnw.too high, and it was a signof the times that -while in the past- trainers were allowed to enter horses for what Meet they chose,' most owners now made their own entries. Their change of policy was due to financial reasons. The owner'quoted eaid that up to the present the totalisator had done nothing for the owners, but it had greatly benefited English racecourse executives. It had caused considerable increase in attendances at meetings and bookmakers had to pay heavy admission feep, but as -'previously, owners had to provide a large portion of the stakes, the clubs having done very little to ixnpwe matters in that respect.
