RANGIORA.

Tho first meeting of tho newly-elecr-ed executive of the Rangiora lloturned Soldiers' Association was held on Saturday evening. The chairman, Mr J. W. MacLeod, was in the chair. Correspondence was received from with regard to tlio remit forwarded b.y the Rangiora branch, and passed at the annual conference of delegates, held in Wellington last year, drawing tho attention of the Government to the action of th© Canterbury Land Board in allegedly_ turning a soldier off his land, then writing down -the value of tho property, _ and subsequently selling it to a civilian at the reduced valuation, without first giving the soldier the option of staying on the land at tho new valuation. As the Minister i'or Lands- is'calling for specific cases covered b.y tho resolution, it was decided that particulars of cases bo forwarded.

The mem bei'ship ladder received from headquarters showed the. New Zealand financial membership to be 11,375,-with Christchurch leading with a membership of 1942. KAIKOURA. There was a very good attendance at the dance held in the Suburban Hall on Saturday, given in aid of the Agricultural arid Pastoral Association by the Suburban Hall Committee.

HANMER SPRINGS. The. ncW auxiliary plant for tli.o.generation of electricity for the lighting of the Queen Mary Hospital is now in commission. The engine will generate 25 kilowatts, \Vhi6h, with the . present plant, makes a total of 60 kilowatts A feature of the installation is a special arrangement to reduce exhaust noises to a minimum, which, owing to tho close proximity of the powprhouso to the Hospital, will be a great advantage. On Saturday afternoon Kaikoura Football Juniors played l a' competition gamo against Rotherham ' juniors at the Rotherham. Domain. An exciting and evenly, contested- game resulted' in a draw, 12 points each. lii the evening the visiting team were> entertained at a' dance 'in : the Rotherhajn Hall.; Miss G. Brown supplied the music, extras being played by Miss M. Mcintosh and Mr R. Chapman. Mr S. Popplewell was M.C. On Saturday hfternoon. the Rotherliain ladies' hockey team played a friendly game with Culver den at Culyej'den Domain. The game resulted in a win for Rotherham by seven goals to nil.
