OBITUARY.
MR S. P. GDINEV. The death ■ has occurred,; at the ago of 78 years, •of Mr • Samuel Patterson Guiney. Mr Guiney was born in 1862 in-Irelandj near. Belfast. . He caine to New Zealand with : his parents and settled at Fernside, arid later ut Ashley. ;On taking, up the ■ profession of teaching, he, entered' .the • Christciiuvch Training: Cpil?g'e, arid afterwards Canterbury College. He, .took appointments at "the •.. Wakaimi, Broomfield, Richmond, Brookside? and Halswell Schools, retiring from . the Halswell SchoolUn 1919.' Mr.^inejCwho always took, a keen interest in sport, was of a -genial disposition; and enjoyed a wide acquaintanceship. He married Miss Clark, of-the staff of the West Christchurch School. He is survived by Jus widow and five sons—Mr D. J. Guiney, of' the staff *of the "Dominion," Wellington, Mr- L. W. Guiney, of the staff of. the' "New Zealand Herald," Auckland. Mr W. P. Guinev, forriierly. of .the staff: of "TeEe.Pbess, Mr: A. H. Guiney, Mayfiel<i, and Mr C. E Guiney,; of the staff of ;tjie 4 ♦New Zealand Herald," He is survived also by 1 orioi daughter, Mrs B.
