BOY SCOUTS.
TROOP TO BE FORMED AT I NORTH BEACH.
A public meeting convened by Major \v. E. S. Furby was held i tlie Peace Memorial Hpll, North Beach, to consider the inauguration of a Boy Scout troop at North Beach. Mr E. A. M. Leaver waj voted to the chair. Major Furby gave an interesting address on the Boy Scout movement and outlined the proposals for the establishment 01 a troop at North Beach. During Major Furby's address Mr D. G, Sullivan, M.P. for the district and Mayor-elect of Christehurch, arrived, and at th> close of Major Furby's address, at the invitation of the chairman, Mr Sullivan addressed the meeting, eulogising the work of the Boy Scout movement. . On the * motion of Mr B. Parker, seconded by Mr F. S. Norrie, it was decided to form a Boy Scout troop at North Beach, and that Major W; E. S. Furby be asked to accept the position of Scoutmaster, and headquarters to be approached and asked to consent to Major Furby taking up these duties. The following were appointed a committee, wit~ power to add to its number: —Mr E. A. M. Leaver.; Mrs A. Hi Sneesby, Mrs W. E. S. Furby, Mr A. H. Sneesby, Mr K. Parker, Mrs C. Seymour, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., Mrs W. A; Smith, Mr R. Snell, and Mr AV McD. Smith. ...
The committee then met, and, on the motion of Major Furby, seconded by Mr D. G. Sullivan, Mr E. A. M. Leaver, was appointed chairman, Mr A. H. Sneesby being appointed secretary. It was decided to make application for registration of the troop. The question of a suitable meeting place for the troop wa left to. the Scoutmaster and 1 secretary to arrange, if possible, for the use of the Peace Memorial Hall. Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., was; elected' patron, Sir Cyril Ward president, and Messrs J. Wostorman, F. J. Good, H. W. H. Piper, W. Wells, A; Florance, 0. Knight, N. McGillivray, J. H. Shaw,
T. E. Thomson, R. Snell, W. S. Bussell, W. Wilkins, A. W. Jones, and T. Dalton were elected vice-presidents. The question of uniforms was held over for a report from the Scoutmaster, several offers of assistance being received in the room, and a cheque for £1 Is was given by Mr D. G. Sullivan, m.p. ■ .
