' The Kaiapoi Fire Brigade was called out about 1 p.m. on Saturday to_ a fire in the pine needles at the Kaiar- 3 poi golf links. < ' A collision between two motor-cars, j one driven by Mr H. Sarcbett, Raxigiora, and the other by Mr E. Grifieu, Ohoka, occurred at the intersection or Seweil and Oookeon streets on bat- < urday evening. The occupants of both . card escaped serious injury, oome damage was done to each car. ■ . s - ■ • < c BURWOOD The Uurwood School Committee held the first of the series of euchre tournaments on Saturday evening in the schoolroom. There was a good attendance. The prize-winners were Mr Rowland and Mrs Burton. After the games, Mr F. Reaby presented to J»l" G. Lewis, who is leaving the district, and a former president of the. ourwood Progressive Association, a S°»j* pencil and fountain pen. Mr kcroyd, secretary, spoke of Mr G. LewißS good work. Mr G. Lewis replied. A special meeting of the Burwooa Library Committee was held on Saturday to arrange for the forthcoming euchre tournament to be held on Saturday next at the Burwood Hall, ine following were present:—Mr Kowse (chairman), Messrs Ecroyd (secretary), Palmer, Small, and Wilson, Mesaames 1 Ecroyd, Rowse, Delaney, and Clifton- J King.
