The steamer Golden West berthed at the breakwater this morning to discharge lumber from the Pacific slope and load frozen meat for Honolulu. A pilot brought the vessel in, but the master will take her out. The latter said that he was quite satisfied with the facilities and the safety of the harbour. Vessels up to a 22ft draught can berth at low water. Three or four heavy tremors were felt overnight. The weather is beautifully fine, but a moderate sea is running. MINISTERS* VISIT. CHIMNEY REPAIRS AT WAIROA TO COST £IO,OOO. (rasas association tsucg&ax.) WELLINGTON, March 7. Sir Apirana Ngata and the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister for Health, have returned from a visit to the Wairoa dis- , trict. Sir Apirana Ngata states that unemployment was becoming a serious factor prior to the earthquake. The destruction of the. freezing works and the road outlets to the south neeessi- . tated the transport of stock to Gisborne, costing one-third of the value of the meat. "Damage to the main traffic bridge interferes with business activities, which are concentrated on the south side of the river. Any farther damage will deprive the borough of the waiter' supply to 'He most populous part. The road to Napier Is being temporarily repaired, but the general impression is that heavy rains will cause big slips. Food relief is being . conducted on the same lines as Napier, and Maori relief ' has been .organised under Mi T. Carroll, nephew of the late Sir James Carroll. Chimney repairs at Wairoa are estimated to involve £IO,OOO, exclusive of the reconstruction of business premises. CHURCH TO BE REBUILT. OFFICE-BEARERS* DECISION. (TUBS ASSOCIATION nUHMUX.) NAPIER, March 8. The office-bearers of St. Raul's Presbyterian congregation at Napier to-day unanimously resolved to take steps for the re-erection -of a place of worship as soon as possible. The Rev. J. A. Asher intimated his willingness to continue as minister. It will be remembered that a fine new brick building, was nearing completion when it was' completely destroyed by-the earthquake asdfita.' • . The council of the New South Wales Teachers' Association recommends to 10,000 teachers -that they- should each "contribute one shilling to angment the New Zealand Earthquake' Fund. . The sum of £241 13s has been forwarded to the Mayor's earthquake relief fund by the primary ana district High School teachers. This amount represents approximately one day's salary from those teachers who have not already contributed to the relief fund through their respective schools, in.and around Christchurch. ■ ■
