PERSONAL. A party of Diamond Harbour and Lyttelton residents, .Messrs W. Paine, T. Bowring, L. Gant, C. Mazey, W. Cleary, R. Bound, and P. Lipscombe, spent the week-end at Hanmer, and yfll return to-day. Cycling. Tlie Lyttelton Amateur OycUng Club held, an eight-mile race to Rapaki and back on Saturday afternoon. Results: —E. • Butcher (imin), 21min llsec, 1; W. Lester (Imin), 21min 26sec, 2; W. Miller (2Jmin), 23min 59sec, 3. Butcher also secured fastest time, an 4 the scratch rider, F." Hart, secured fastest time for unplaced riders. An old-timers' race was won by J. Miller, and a joy-cycle race for boys resulted: E. Miller 1, M, Miller 2, W. Brown 3. • Memorial Service. There was a large congregation at the Lyttelton Methodist Church last evening when/a memorial service for the late Mr James Pitcaithly was held. In the course of his sermon the .Rev. C. Blair mentioned that Mr Pitcaithly had been a member of the Lyttelton Methodist Church for fifty-eight years. In his young days Mr Pitcaithly had been the leader of the Young Men's Bible Classy and had since held nearly every office in the church. During the service Mi* Pitcaithly's favourite hymns were sung. Sailing. The sailing race arranged to take place on Saturday afternoon from Lyttelton to Port Levy was abandoned owing, to lack of starters. Conditions were quite unsuitable, .and it is extremely doubtful if the yachts could have made Port Levy at all. The Canterbury Yacht and MotorBoat Club held two races under unsatr isfactory, sailing conditions, the wind being flukey and. variable. Eesults were: — Open Race —Colleen (R. Priddy), ser, 1; Irene (S. Toomey), scr, 2; Snark (E. Sinclair), 6min, 3. Others to finish were: Hakari (I. "Newton), scr; Waterbeetle (P. Serra), 3min; and Usher (T. Hobbs), scr. Takapuna Class—Wee May (E. Taylor), scr, 1; Zita (R. Hendry), 2; Uira (R. Nolan), scr, 3; Pauline (W. Tissirtan), scr, 4. Service of Intercession. A united service: of intercession on behalf of the country, Parliament, and the unemployed was held in Holy Trinity Church last evening at the conclusion of the usual evening service. Members of St. John's Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Church attended. An address was given by the Rev. F. Tylee, of St. John's, who took for his subject Nehemiah's Patriotic Prayer (Nehemiah 1., 2-4). The hymns chosen for the service were "0 God Our Help," "0 God of Bethel by Whose Hand," "God Moves in Mysterious Ways," and "Nearer, My Qoi, To Thee." ■ 'Dance.: The Te Whaka Tennis Club held a successful dance in the Excelsior Hall on.
