UNIVERSITY BURSARIES.
• TO THE EDITOH 0* THB PBEBB Sir,-All New Zealand students will, be grateful for the protest being mado by the chairman of the Canterbury College Board of Governors; against the unfair redaction of students' bursaries. Their cause has also received the sympathetic, support of Thb and of other journals in New Zealand; but as there is little prospect of. any immediate relief at the hands of the Education Department, *it would appear that the students affected-are entitled to a little consideration an' the matter. ' - ' v Under the existing rules, fees must be paid in full by March 12th, with a penalty of five shillings per subject for failure to comply.: Would it not be possible, Sir, for our own. College Board to authorise the Registrar-to accept a certain portion of the fees by the above-mentioned date, "the'balance to be paid by the commencement of the second term? In this way students would' have an opportunity. of meeting the unexpected -demandon their all too slender means, and the college itself' would 'not be faced with "a considerable Ices of revenue through restricted enrolments.- Although I am not personally affected by the injustice of this reduction,! make the suggestion on behalf of the many who are, and as one who as ft student has known the real distresses of poverty.—Yours, etc., "■■■■■■■ GRADUATE.. March 7th. 1931.
