SCOTS TO VISIT AUSTRALIA.
DELEGATION OF 500. EXCHANGE INDUCEMENT. traou i OUB own COaMSPONDINT.) SYDNEY, February 26. Scot* have a reputation for being canny, and the announcement that a delegation of 500 -still visit the Commonwealth in the near future to some extent bears this out. An English pound i B worth in Australia very much more than it ever has been before, and it seems likely that the members of the delegation must have read of the experiences of an English couple who ar rived in Sydney the other day. tt waß reported that they took of England note to a local bank and obtained for it £127 10s. They spent a fortnight in the mountains, and when they returned to the City^ they reported that they still possessed £IOO. If this news got abroad, as seems quite likely, it is not surprising that a number of Scots should contemplate a tour of the Commonwealth. An official circular forwarded to Scottish patriotic societies and kindred bodies in Great Britain pointed out that one of the special-inducements, "which may perhaps i'appeal" specially'to Scotsmen, is the ex- ' change position. A visit to Australia at this tiflie might well be a happy circumstance." It was originally announced that the delegation would be confined to 250, and Scottish societies in Australia are naturally, delighted to learn that at least 600 will make the tour.; The details are being; arranged by the" Victorian Scottish Union, which has the organisation of the tour in hand. The party will sail from London on the Hobsons Bay on November 11th, and will arrive at IVemantle on December 10th. Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and, if desired,' Tasmania will be inqltOld in the itinerary. Christmas will be spent in Melbourne. In 1928 Australian Scottish folk paid a visijt, to their homeland and were made so welcome that ever since they Tiave expressed a desire to repay, the hospitality that was accorded to them.
