CYCLING. Tho Sumner Cycling Club will hold a road race for unregistered riders on Monday evening. ' The race will start and finish at Sumner. Tennis. The Sumner Club will shortly be concluding what has undoubtedly been one of its most successful seasons. Every handicap event drew excellent entries, and the club entered three teams in the competitions, each one getting through to the final stages. Last Saturday the A grade team was defeated in tho final by Cathedral. The B grade team was defeated in Section 2 of this grade, and this afternoon tho D grade team will play its sectional final against Wesley. The team is:—Misses Muriel Whitfield, Dorothy Alexander, Runa Hall, Hazel Cook, and Messrs E. P. Newburgh, R. H. Matthews, M. Wiggins, and another. To-day week at Wilding Park, the club will be strongly represented in the Canterbury junior championships by Misses Noeleen Bishop and Aileen Smith, and Messrs G. A. Webb and D, E. Climic. Life Saving. The members of tlie team competing in the Ray Blank Cup at Sumner last Sunday deserve congratulations for their excellent showing, and although they may be somewhat disappointed at not carrying off the principal event of the season, in taking second place they may find consolation in the fact that onlookers as well as members of other clubs noted with pleasure the return of the high standard of work for which the club was known some years ago. The only club competition yet to bo decided is the Junior Cup, a singlehanded rescue event to bo held in the Estuary to-day week, for which post entries will bo received. There is some doubt as to whothef tho club will be Centering teams for the) Sir John Hall Shield for boys under 17, or tho Monica Thackcr Shield for women. Redcliffa School. . To recognise tho assistance, given by tho committee and several residents, tho Redcliffa School Committee is holding a social in the Community - Hall next week, which those interestod are invoted to attend. It will be remembered that the committee recently held ft fete which proved an unqualified success and it is with the idea of acknowledging the assistance given on this occasion that the social is being held. Tho opportunity >vill also bo taken of welcoming Mr and Mrs Parsonage. Mr Parsonage has recently taken np a teaching appointment at the Redcliffa School and intends residing in that part of the borough. ' Redcliff? Ladies' Hockey Olub. Tho annual report to be presented to the members at tho second annual meeting on Tuesday evening states that last year the lledcliffs Ladios' Hockey Club entered two teams in the competition. Tho present number of playingmembers is. 24, with two honorary members. The Junior A team, although making a bad start, improved very much as the aea- 1 son progressed, and finished only four points behind tho winning team. Tho Junior B team was not very successful; but for a team of boginners their performances were very creditable. Trophies were presented to the club by Mesdamcs W. 11. Nicholson and F. Truscottj and these wero given to Misses M. Hobson and B. Bailey (A team), and Misses D. Olliver and D. Lawson (B team). The thanks of the club are flue to. tho social committee who,' in conjunction with tho men's club, succeeded in raising £l7 9s 2d. The elub has a credit balance of £l4 6s Bd, and has no liabilities. There are no outstanding subscriptions. In conclusion, the committee desires to express its appreciation of the work of the secretary, and tho treasurer, Miss Gladys Bates. Business Men's Association. Tho annual report of the Business. Men's Association, to be presented at the annual meeting nest Wednesday evening, states that the past year- has been an oventful one for the Association.
