Tomorrow: 7.45 a.m. and 8.10 p.m. on the beach, and 8.29 a.m. and 8.54 p.m. in"the river. Road-Making Plant. An event of. interest in the borough was the arrival of the New Brighton Borough Council's modern road-maliing comprising a road roller, road grader, and bitumen sprayer. The roller is an 8-ton compound made by an English firm, and is fitted with water sprinklers and a special scari* fier operated by the driver. The road grader, which is also made by an English firm, has a 6ft blade and ] is complete with all modern equipment. The bitumen sprayer, which was made in Christchurch, is a 200-gallon machine designed to handle hot bitumen and tar or cold bituminous emulsions. At the last meeting of the Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr J. H. Shaw) said that the arrival of the plant would mark a new era in the history of the j borough, and residents could look forward to better roads. Mr Shaw stated that the cost would probably be approximately £2OO less I than was anticipated. I Plunket Society. At the monthly meeting of the New Brighton branch of the Plunket Society there were present Mesdamea N. McGillivray (in the chair), J. H. Shaw, W. Dean, S. Grammar, N. Flavel, R. S. Pearson, 13. Throp, G. Boilby, and Miss E. Hulme (secretary). A motion of sympathy with the relatives a? the late Mr W. Miles was passed. The secretary reported that owing to many counter-attractions on March 7th, Plunket Day had been changed to March 14th. The secretary was instructed to invito the members of the New Brighton Surf Club to assist the Society on Plunket Pay, It was decided to circularise residents reminding them of this day, A report of visits to the Plunket roOms for the month submitted by Nurse Wilson showed a total of 176 adults. 144 babies, and 61 children. Sixty-four homes were visited. The winners at the card evening held at tho residence of 'Mrs J. H. Shaw were Mrs B. Miles and M* H. Throp. Free Kindergarten. The funds of. tho free Jiindergarten are being considerably augmented by the card evenings which aro being held every Thursday, This week's prize-win-ners iwere Mrs Larcomb, Mrs J. H. Coddington, and Mr Cant, A committee meeting will be held on Tuesday. South Brighton Burf Olub. ' The committee of the South Brighton Surf Club held another card tournament on Wednesday evening, when a, large number of players attended. Prizes were won by Mrs JJ. Robinson and Mr Brett. ■ ■ Wednesday evening was the final of the aggregate, the .winners boing Mrs H. Robinson (first women), Mrs Rogerp , (second 1 Women), Mr B. Campbell (first (pen) and Mr T. Six teams have entered. Tennis. The New Brighton Tennis Club had a decisive win over the Waimairi club last Saturday, when they won the 16 sets. Thitj season has been a vdry successful - one. The team which entered In the C grade of the inter-club competition has lost only two matches. A. P. Hopkins, V.D., presiding over an attendance of nearly sixty members. Several new nominations for membership were received find referred to the executive. All present signified their intention'of taking part as a unit in the Anzac Pay commemoration service. There being a vacancy on the executive, Sergt. E. Hulmo was appointed to fill same. A large number, of the official badges of the Association have been issued. Good Templars. The fortnightly mooting of the Good Templars' Lodge was held in the Band Hall, New on March 3rd. Chief Templar Sister B. Jone? presided over an attondanco of 89 intmbers. Two now members were initiated. Bister Glenn, acting D.S.J.W,, was welcomed and spoke briefly. Bister Sweeney, of the Hope of Christchurph Lodge, No. 8, was also given a hearty welcomo. Sister Teaguo announced that a church' parade would be held next Sunday at St. Faith's Church, at IX a.m. Games wore then played, and an enjoyable evening was spent. The meeting of the Rawhiti Junior Lodge was held in the Band Hall on March 3rd. Sister D. Handley presided over an attendance of 19 members. Sister Glenn and Sister Sweeney, of Hope of Christchurch Lodge, were ac corded a hearty welcome. It was decided that one evening a quarter be set aside for" the Harmony Club, no regular meeting to be held on that night, j Bowling. , j In the' final of the Bowling Club'a singles championship, Middlcton was defeated by Bisman. The inter-borough bowling match between Sumner and New Brighton will bo held to-day on the Sumner green. St. Faith's Church. The Junior Lodge of the Independent Order of Good Templars have arranged to parade at St. Faith's Church to-mor-row. By order of the Bishop to-mor-row will also be kept as a day of intercession for the needs of the Domin- J ion in this present, time of difficulty, i Special prayers and intercessions will j bo offered at all services. Miniature Bifle Olub. The sixteenth annual meeting of the New Brighton Men's Miniature Rifle Club wap held on Thursday evening. Tho president, Mr G.
