RANGIORA. , The annual meeting of the Eangiora Male Voice Choir was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. W. E. Barton presiding. The balance-sheet showed a credit of i£4 lis 6d. The report was not so satisfactory as in previous years, owing to membership. The prospects, however, for the present year were considered good. -The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, the Mayor (Mr 0. ,S. Ayers); president, Mr J. E. Strachan; ' vice-president, Mr W. E. Barton j secretary, Mr L. A. Mahoney; treasurer, Mr ;G. McAlpine; auditor, Mr H. M. Chap;poll; committee, Messrs P. A. Lane, il\ Benjes, H. M. Chappell; librarian, -;Mr W. Mars den; conceit manager, Mr ?H. M. Chappell: conductor, Mr G. Gibbs Jordan. Votes of thanks were passed to Mrs 0. E. Bell and Miss Jordan, Mr Jordan, and all outgoing officers. » It was decided to open the season on March 21st. Two new members were 'elected. Superintendent C. W. Tyler, accompaniedby Miss Tyler, left on Wednesday for Nelson, where he will attend the United Eire Brigades' Association Conference. Fireman P. Prestney is i also attending the conference. In regard to the Eangiora borough 'high-pressure water scheme, the Borough has accepted the tender of 'Messrs Keir and Thompson for the olevated water tank in concrete, the price being £2168 13s. Eighteen tenders '.were received, :the prices ranging up ?to- £3168. Por an alternative tender ifor a steel tank there were eight ten* jders. Although two or three of < these jwere slightly under this accepted tender ,'in concrete, the Council was guided : by ; the recommendation of the engineer. Fifteen • tenders were . received for galvanised iron pipes, and that of ■jtjie New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-•tive Association at £1272 2s was ac- ; cepted. All the tenders submitted were vvery close, the accepted tender being sonly twopence above the next. The estimate was £l2Bllßs lid.

Advice has been roceived from the matron thafc tho consignments arrived in good order, and were most acceptable, seeing there Were' no ovens to bake in, and were much appreciated by the stfiff and patients. A box of baby clothes was also forwarded to' Hastings. • Mr A. J. Bannister, ,of the Post Office' staff, is- at present on annual .leave.

TAI TAPU.' - , The new consolidated 1 school at Tai Tnpu, which is nearly completed, is a very fine building, qpd will prove a great acquisition' to the district. The rooms, of ,which there are three,'are so constructed that each, receives, the maximum of .sunshine ■ and fresh air. The rooms >: are connected with verandahs, which afford protection from the c6ld 'south-west winds, and are fitted with sealing accommodation. Tho buildings 'facing north are situated in a .large play-ground, with a fine' protecting belt of D'ine trees and arches. •The "Grean Lane'' has now passed out of existence: having been. ploughed in order to make an entrance to the school. The lane is being shingled and :j>ut in order by the Halswell County Council. # . Much enthusiasm is shown in' the competition for tho silver cup presented by Mr Wheeler to the Tai Tapu Tennis Club. In the first round Miss; K. Kimber beat Mrs Plumridge. Miss' M. Byan beat Mrs Coltee, Mr& Barnett beat Miss Walls, Miss M. > iKimber beat Miss McLachlan; Miss t Steinmetz a bye. 1 ' Mrs T.
