LEAGUE'S PROPOSALS. [ CO-OPERATION WITH OfHER BODIES. The schemo to niuko a port in tho Estuary was discussed at a meeting of the Port Christchurch Lcaguo lust night,-when it was decided to invite' the co-operation of tho Port and City League and of tlio recently set up Estuary Conservancy Board,, The secretary (Mr E. Thacjcer was nominated for the position, whereupon Mr H. 13. Lonsdale nominated Mr R. B, Owen, wlio declined acceptance.

He was' certain that when a light draught coastal steamer like the ronton was brought into the Estuary the people of Christchurch would see that there was no difficulty ahead oI the proposal. He believed that it would be possible to get a floQt q{ suclnatqamors berthed in the Estuary. A schenie involving the outlay of millions would be quite im< practicable at present, but if light stumers could be brought into the Ustuary ho was sure that the small traders would give the proposal their support. He moved that the eomple* tiqn of Linwood avenue to the seaboard be recommended as a suitable work for unemployed. .This was seconded by Mr E. B. Cotton. Mr G.
