THE WEATHER.

Meteorological observations taken at the A'agnetio Observatory, Christchurch, at 'J a.m. and 5 p.m. on March sth:

Winds —Light to moderate variablo winds, gradually tending northerly, and later freshening somewhat in Cook and Foveaux Straits. Seas (New Zealand ■ waters)- —Generally smooth to moderate. "Tasman- Sea—Moderate north-west to northerly winds and smooth, to'moderate seas in the easterif Tasman Sea. Weather —Fair to flue • generally, with rising temperatures, scattered, showers later in South Westland and about Foveaux Strait. DOMINION REPORTS. (From readings taken at 4 p.m.)

Auckland—Bright sunshine and summery conditions prevailed yesterday, with a slight southerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 73 degrees. Wellington—Sun and cloud alternated yesterday, the sky sometimes being completely overcast. There was practically no Avind. Dunedin—The weather for the greater part of the, day was fine and sunny,, with a cold breeze from the north-east. Tho maximum temperature was 60 degrees. The barometer fell during the day but 'wt-a steady last evening at 30:05, Forecast. General Situation—-An anti-cyclone still covers New Zealand, its eentre having moved further north since yesterday. A shallow depression is moving across the Tasman Sea.
