Good progress is being made with the construction of the approach to the new traffic bridge over the Ashburton river, and several teams are busily engaged building up the approaches with material from the riverbed. It is estimated that the contract will be - completed' within, the required time next month. Temperance Union. The monthly meeting of the.Ashbur-. ton branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held on Tuesday, Mrs W.. Grigg' presiding over a good attendance. A' temperance fact was supplied by Mrs Robinson. A vote of sympathy was passed with the bereaved) in the recent disaster which befell Hawke's Bay; also with Mrs W. Grigg and Mnt G. Nielsen in their bereavement. Saunders during the past three years as treasurer, "and extended a welcome to her • successor, Mrs Tulloch. Miss Hen- • derson .wrote in' reference to matters connected with tho contention which opens at Nelson on March 18th. The notices of motion to be brought before the convention were discussed, and the delegates instructed accordingly. Mrs Perryman wrote appealing for the assistance in increasing the circulation, and extending tho influence of the "White Ribbon." The Commissioner of Police, Wellington, wrote, acknowledging with thanks receipt of a copy of a resolution passed at the last meeting of, the > Union. j
