During a terrific storm to-day, a portion of the explosives factory of Nobel . Australasia Proprietary, Limited, .at " , Deer Park, 15 miles from the city, was by lightning and \frecked. ' < - A series of violent explosions -occurred, and these smashed every window in the building, also many windows of houses and shops for miles ■ ' around. The noise was heard in "some of the distant suburbs. Workmen at ■ Nobel's ~ were fortunately not. on the j . ■ premises, as having been warned of tha approaching storm they, had Jeff the; ■ ' acid room, which was destroyed. Dense volumes p£ black smoke rising from' - ' 1 the ruins enveloped the whole district; The local hotel .suffered much' dtuit* ■ ajje, even the doors shelve# beiwg*, displaced • and debris littered - every < _ room. Nobody was' hurt. The Defence Department's cordite factory in the same "vicinity escaped damage.'
