EARTHQUAKE RELIEF.
"THE PRESS" FUND. It is a great- pleasure to know that Press? readers have - now subscribed more than eight thousand ponndß for earthquake relief, and done it in less than four weeks. Although our first contribution came to us on the day on which the earthquake waif reported, our fund was not opened until February sth, so that the average contribution has been two thousand pounds a week from the first news of the disaster.
Other contributions will still come, and "prill still he gratefully received and acknowledged; but we shall not ask for more unless a situation develops which cannot at present be foreseen. Parliament meets this day week, and we shall take no further action—over and above this duty of acknowledgment —until relief measures are announced on behalf of the whole community. We acknowledge already:—
