The Health Department is installing an addition to its electricity plant as tho present plant is not capable of generating sufficient power to supply the demand during the winter months. The new engine'is a Buston Hornsby Diesel 43-45 h.p. and will be available about the eiid of March. The plant will then be capable of, generating 60 kilowatts. The committee appointed at the public meeting to collect subscriptions to the earthquake relief fund has succeeded in raising £B2 2s Od. Chittock, of, Timaru, who have been visiting Kaikoura, left for Christchurch on Sunday, en route for home. • !'■ > There was a laJge attendance at the dance conducted by the Hapuku Hall Committee, held at the Hapuku Hall'on Friday night. Music was supplied by Mr W. Thomas, and the duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr T. Eaton* Among the visitors at 'the Oddfellows' Lodge Meeting on .Saturday, night were: ■ Bro. Boberts, P.D.G.M.; Bro. F. Cole, District Executive Officer; Bro. Taylor, P.G., Loyal Benevolent Lodge; Bro. Geary, L,M., Loyal Progress Lodge; and Bro. Frost, Loyal Bangiora Lodge. The rainfall for Kaikoura for February was as follows:—Bain fell on four days for a total of 2.25 in, the maximum for 24 hours being 1.45 in on) the 12th. For February, 1930, the fall was .15in for three days, ,12in on the Ist. The rainfall for Hapuku for the month of February was 4.41 in. Bain fell on six days, the maximum being on the 12th, when there was a; falljof 1.50 in. The rainfall for February, 1930, was 1.86 in, on ten days. A special meeting«of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge was held on Saturday evening, tho occasion being a visit of the Loyal Progress Lodge, Christchurch, Two women members (Sisters Paraons, of the Loyal Progress Lodge, and Sister Taylor, 1.P.N.G., of the Sister Pearce Lodge) accompanied the party, which numbered 22. The wife of the present, N.G. of Loyal Progress Lodge was initiated as an honorary member of Loyal Progress Lodge, the ceremony being, performed by the officers of that Lodge, the same officers also initiating an honorary member on behalf of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge. Tho agenda paper for the coming District Conference was discussed, the visitors explaining several remits. Two P.G. certificates were presented to members of the Lodge, Bro./ Boberts, 1.D.G.M., making the presentation.

A social was held at the close of the Lodge, music for the dancing being supplied by Mrs W. D. Sabiston and Bro. W. Thomas. Miss Firkin sang, and a humorous item was given by Mr L. Firkin. - e An East Coast team visited Kaikoura on Saturday and played a match with a local eleven. Batting first, the visitors scored 124 runs.
