The provisional President, Senor wnehez Oerru, has resigned, after his hftd been threatened by armed irevoty for more than a week. This action followed d few hours after he had received a demand from the PeruvianNayy, called on him to quit ill order to prevent civil war. The Jiavy at the same time held up .the movements of ships carrying loyal south to quell the rebellion at Arequipa, The Navy demanded a new Junta, with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as President, and representatives of the. Navy and civilLater, Bettor Rieardo Elias, the t/hief Justice of the Supreme Court, Tvas chosen as Provisional President.
