' PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO THE PBESB.) , GBEYMOUTH, March 2. Mr James Neilson, underground manager o£ the Blackball Coal Company, who has been visiting Wellington retumid on Saturday, Mr J. A. Q. Kissell has been appointed relieving teacher at Ifcamatna, replacing Mrs Pringle, who has resigned. Mr .A. Whisker,- fuel inspector for New Zealand Bailways, is visiting the West' Coast. . ' • The. Bev. Father O'Brien, who has been spending a holiday on the West Coast, has returned to Ashburton. Mrs J. McLeod, "Greymouth, who has been . in- hospital in • Christchurch, will return home this .week. Miss- EJIa Matthews, "who ba,s been visiting Wellington, returned, homo on Saturday. . Members of the Italian Club presented "an inscribed gold medal to Mr Gerald 'PeiOtti in recognition of his services'as Italian Vice-Consul. Mrs W, B.- Kettle and Miss V. Kettle left to-day for Wellington, where they intend to reside.
Wedding. The wedding was celebrated on Saturday morning at Sti John's Presbyterian Church, Grey'mouth, the. Rev. B. H. Fell officiating,' of Mr William ' James Marshall, late - of County Antrim, Ire' land, and Mary Prescott, eldest daughter of Mr and- Mrs Isaac Powell, Runanga. The bride wore a frock of blue georgette with hat tnd shoes to tone, and carried a bouquet of chrysanthemums. She wag attended by her sister, Bessie, who, wore a frock of pink georgette with hat' to tone, and carried a bouquet of pink paters. After the ceremony-a reception-was held by the bride's parents,. Mrs Powell receiving her'guests wearing a- grey silk, dress, a black silk coat, and hat to tone. Dredging at Awatuna. . Tke old Awatuna Dredging Company's dredge which has lain idle for the past five ( years is being reconditioned with a viow to resuming 1 operations shortly. The former company .secured several' good- returns, from the area which will be worked deeper by the new company.
Earthquake Relief. The Greymouth Borough Council has remitted so far a total of £2083 10s 3d for the Hawke's Bay Belief Fund. Hokitika's collection to date is £904 19s 9d. An effort to form a copper trail around Cass square will give a further £l5O. Westport Post Office. Blasting operations to clear away the foundations of the old Westport Post Office, damaged by the .earthquake in June, 1929, to permit of new foundations: being laid for tho newibuilding, took 600 plugs of gelignite.
Cricket. 1 The West Coast Cricket Association's fixtures on Sunday were played-in perfect weather. Results- were:-—» Playing at the Recreation Ground, United A beat Marist A by 180 for 1 seven declared, to 38, 1.1 the first innings. Marist in thei- second strike 1 made 68 for four, when- time was called. United's scorers were: Nightingale 98, i smythe 17, Merriman 15, while , in 1 Marist's first strike none reached double i figures, Matthews 8 being beat, In , Marist's second innings F. Bayley 19, not out, and Morris 16, not out, were i best. (Bowling for Marist, Morris took three for 62, and Cornish three for 37).. A collection taken up on the ground for the Hawke's Bay earthquake relief, fund realised £5 10a. flaying at Victoria Park, Marist B drew with Kokiri, both- making a' total of 107, Marist's first strike yielded 67 (Morrison 16, Wilde 14, not out, Budd/ 10), and' the second 40 (Donovan 10, o*Donnoll 9, Grogan 9), Kokiri made 58 in their first innings (McKay SO, Curtain 11), and 49 in .their second.innings (Blewman 16* Cnrtain 11). Bowling for Kokiri, Blewntan took three -for'l3, Pope three for 10, and' , Booney three for 20 in'Marist's' first, innings, while Burgess ,took seven for <B, and •McGurk 'three for 80, bowling for Kokiri in Marißt's first innings. In the second innings, Curtain took four . for 12, McKay- three for 7, and Blewman three for'lß for Kokiri, and Burgess six for 29, and McGurk four for-17 for Marist. * . Playing at Cobden,' the home team beat United B by 172 to 95. For Cob* den, Knapp 60, Mcintosh' 45, J. Guy ' 34, were the leading scorers.' For United McDonald 67, and Fivea'qh 10, were best. At a sitting of the Children's Court, Mr W, Meldrum, S.M., presiding, a husband and wife were charged with having two daughters in an .environment detrimental to their moral and physical well-being. An order was made committing the children to the care of the Child Welfare Obituary. i The death occurred in the Grey Hospital on _ Saturday night of Mr Bobert Houston, aged 40, who had ben employed at -the Dobson Mine. He is survived by a sister, Mrs Ingram,' of Hokitika.
