It was the Hrs», plant the borough had had, and tne streets would benefit considerably. Ine cost would probably be £2OO less than was anticipated. The Marine Department, Wellington, wrote asking to- be supplied a plan. ?f ™e South Brighton bridge and locally in order that -the position might be made clear in connexion .with the application to divert the Bat Island stream • mtothe main channel.-—lt was decided to forward the plan. The District Highways Council, Christchurch, wrote st&ting that it was considered that the resurfacing of River iroad over the entire area was not necessary at the present time.' A small amount of patching was ■ required. The estimated cost of this Mayor said that the letter was a reply to an estimate sent by -the' Council concerning'' River road,.-which was really a secondary highway. "Various councillors criticised the Board's '.attitude, and a ,motion by Or. Ainsworth, . that the Mayor;, and chairman of -Works, wait on the ■ chairman of the Board, was carried.

, The Chrißtchurch Tramway Board wrote stating that track watering had not,been done at North Beach for a considerable time, the - distance • from town making it too expensive. The . tracks would be lifted in a few months. Or. Leaver took exception to the Board's, letter stating that the dust nuisance in Bowhill road was a very real one. It was due to having to wa { t for the' Tramway Board to. remove the lines, that the Council could not put .the road in order.

It was resolved that a deputation consisting of the Mayor and chairman of/works wait on the Board to discuss the'-matter. ( - I • "Works Committee. The - Works Committee's report contained correspondence from 1 the Christchurch Tramway Board stating that in the priginal layout of the poles at the Peace I Memorial there was one pole,in front of the building which was tho first position for taking the overhead strain.. At the' Councils request this was not 'proceeded with, bat new poles had been placed at the sides. It was found that the ■ strain on the north pole was too | great for safety, so the additional pole : IWaa erected.
