PERSONAL. CSPXCUi. TO THE PRESS.) ' GREYMOTJTH, February 26. Messrs W. A. Flavell, managing director of the Wesfcport Coal Co., Ltd., E. C. Hazlett, Crosby Morris, and M. B. Richards, directors, - who have : been visiting Westport and Denniston, returned to-day to Dunedin. Messrs D. Standage, R. L. Wigley, and H. Hall, of the Mount Cook Motor Co., who have been visiting the West Coast, returned to-day to Timaru. , Messrs Joseph Butler, managing director of the Kauri Timber Co., Ltd., Melbourne, and T. C. Alston, director, who have been visiting the West Coast, left to-day for Auckland. The Rev. Father I]. J. B. Seward, who, since his return from a visit to England last year, has been stationed at Wellington, arrived to-day. at Ahaura, where he will act during the absence of the Rev. Father O'Meeghan. The Rev. Father Seward was about four years ago stationed at Kumara. , Mr John Kerrigan, chief veterinarian for Canterbury, and Westland, arrived to-day from Christehurch. Mr and Mrs J. Eadie, who have been visiting Wellington, returned to-day. Mr Gregory Hunt arrived this afternoon on a visit to the West Coast. Miss D. W. Bridgman arrived to-day from Christehurch, and will judge the needlework section at the A. and P. Show to-morrow. . - Mr D. M. Lane, of the Reefton railway station staff, has been transferred to Greyinouth.
j The Mines. ' The Grey Valley Collieries were idle to-day, and the Liverpool State mine will work to-morrow. A shortage of orders is stated to be the chief factor in the stoppages of work. Milling Activity. There is considerable mining activity in the Blackwater district, ' sluicing ' being started in two claims at Snowy river. A new find of a gold-bearing reef in' Blackwater creclc has been reported.
Magistrate's Court. i A Sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held at Westport to-day, Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., presiding. Frederick Upham pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife, from whom he, was separated. He was convicted ancl sentenced to one month's imprisonment in Greymouth gaol. *, "' Athol Quinri, for dangerous driving of a motor-car in the main street of' Westport, was convicted and fined £2 and costs. J. L. .Toster was ordered to pay £ 7 17s 8d on adjudgment summons forthwith to \V. Empire -Service League, Mrs J. Hotehkin, of Amberley, representing Ein'pire Service League, arrived in Greyiaouth to-day. She stated this evening that the .League urged the use of West Coafft coal and mentioned that recently a truck of Australian coal was located at Amberley, where it still regains unsold. She urges the West 1 Coast to reciprocate by tradiag with the Nor(h Canterbury farmers. West Coast Herd-Testing.
