ERECTION OF BEACONS. i
TUe Marine Department notifies the following orectiong of beacons in Otago Harbour:—First Beacon: Black with white light 1 003 degrees 690' yards from beacon s on Quarantine Island (approx.). A white triangle.has been erected on the black beacon- and 200 yards 028 degrees from; it, a' single-pile structure carrying a white triangle and a green ,light visible one mile 'has been erected* » Second Beacon: Black with white light 610 yards 217 degrees from beacon on Qnat-. antine Island (approx.). A white triangle has been erected'on the above black bejeon and 200 yards 208 degrees from .it a single pile-Structure carrying a white triangle,'and a green light visible one mile, has been erected. The two sets of beacons in lino OSS degrees and 208 degrees respectivelylead through the passage between Quarantine and Goat Islands..
NEW ATLANTIC LINER. The Canadian Pacific Railway Company | advise that the Empress of Britain i; will; be j delivered to them three weeks earlier than ' expected, nnd will leave Southampton «n her maiden voyage to Quebec on May 27th. She will leave Quebec on June 6th on her I return maiden voyage to Southampton. This 'fine liner is* 42.500 tons, and has a spofld ■of 24 knots. She is expected to reduce the Atlantic crossing to a regular five days. j
THE MAUI POM ARE.
The Government motor-ship , Maul Pomare was due at Apis yesterdayto- load, and ■ at Itiue to-morrow. She is expected to ■ reach LyttaHon on' March 9th, and proceeds from this port to .Wellington and Auckland.
