NEW LIFE-SAVING JACKET.
DEMONSTRATION AT BATHS'J ' , ■» \ <. . A demonstration.of,a pew life-saying jacket, which, lias bean patented, pro-, risionally by >Mr Aleo ...Moore, was given, at the Tepid Baths yesterday. : The new jacket "fulfils the Board'or Trade regulations by, keeping • the wearer's face, whetherhebe unconscious and unable to swim,, or' not, at an angle of 45 degrees above the surface of the water. During-, the,.war it was discovered that what was tfyen considered to be an efficient w life-belt"* allowed thewearer's head to fall'forward, into the water, so that if he were not a good swimmer or were unconscious, he would be drowned in spite of the belt. The Board of Trade, therefore,- issued new regulations providing' that no J" 0 " belt or life jacket would be passed unless it had ' demonstrated that whether the wearer were conscious or unconscious, able to swim, or unable to swim, in what ever position ' or manner he was thrown into the water and whether" his wer<*'inflated or not, the life jacket would be capable *>r* 'turning' the wearer's face upwards •& . >an 'fuvpje of '46 degrees. Mr' Moore perfected such" a jacket, and with .-Mr E. ; '<Phi!f»ott-Grother, » forming :a company ; which will enable tim -to take the jacket l to England >ana place it before" the IJowd of' Trade.
