'the founder ,of the Church Army, was 84 yearg» old yesterday, and at a luncheon at the Church Army headquarters, a number of his fellow Companions of Honout" joined with the Church Army and, disabled ex-Servicemen in paying tribute to his life and work., * Lord Daryngton. president of the Church Army, was in the chair. E&ch of the Companions of Honour added a few words, paying "their tribute «to his worjj. The first speaker was the Rev. J. C. Carlile. who offered the congratulations ■ and thanks of 11,000,000 Baptists, and he was 'followed by Mr 6. N. Barnes, Lady Barrett, Sir 'Frank Swettenhajn, Dr.' Jan? Walker, Mr 6. J. Wardle Mr J. O. C. " Davidson, M.P., Miss Gertrude Tuekwell. and Mr J. A. Seddon. Then came greetings from Churcn Army officials, and the, presentation of . a framed portrait of the Kins on be-' .half of the disabled ex* Servicemen. When "The Chief" replied,-he was obviously affected bv th 6 demonstrations of affection and admiration that had gone before.
