DRAWINGS (ON BRICKS. ' ! , i ' if 'j 'in i r I , An" account .of the excavations 0)H"ried out at Nineveh on behalf of the British Museum, during the season 11)29-30, was given to members of, the s Royal Asiatic Society in London, when !it joint • paper was read by Dr. R. I-Campbell Thompson and Air R. W. | Hutchinson. I It was stated that the greater part of what had once been a palace of the I ninth century, ' 8.C.,, ,was exoavated, 1 and in the debris were fdtmd several i bricks ■ decorated with excellent ' outline drawings, often filled in with yellow or white oolouring, of, chariots, \ horses, a chieftain briivging i tribute, a i mountaineer, and a besieged fortress. , Several thousands of beads of potfoefrv and stone, dating back to 2500 8.C.,, and fragments of prehistoric geometric painted" ' pottery were also found., 1 The Roman occupation of the site was marked by a hoard of coins, collected about 215 AD. About fifty crude prehistoric bowls, found almost all upside down,- were apparently placed in that position- with some "religious significance. , < During the ooming season it'"is hoped to.complete the .excavation of the palace site', and to'.mak'e .a begin- > ning 6n what promises to be part' of the Temple., of Ishtar.
