NEW ZEALAND AND BRITISH MARINERS.
The secretary of. the Mercantile Marine Service Association has received a copy of the tenth annual report and statement of Accounts of the New Zealand Sheepowuers' Fund, which, it will be recalled, was inaugurated for the purpose of acknowledging 'a debt to British seamen, says-the Liverpool "Journal of Commerce." It is interesting to observe that 'during the year ended June 30th, 1980,' over £IOOO was expended in grants to disabled and 'the dependents of such, and, further that since the commencement- of -the. operations of the fund in 1921, - £117,828- have been allocated in the form of -assistance to British seamen and their, depend„The council of the Association -have Bince that ,year actively co-operated with the fund by investigating applications and disbursements pt' The report .shows that 576 -boys and 128 girls, vprphans of British, have beeik transferred to the , Dominion, each whom- is assuredcare andoltimately successfal.
