ADDINGTON MARKET.
HEAVY ENTRIES. KEEN INTEREST IN STORE SHEEP SALE. (Bjr OUE COMMBBCIAL EDITQII./
The principal interest in tho weekly metropolitan market at Addington yes-, terday was in the store sheep section, and there was a very large attendance of farmers jpresent, doubtless Jo secure an indication of the values likely to rule at the ewe fairs, which open next Monday. It was easily the largest attendance of the season at Addington. Store -lambs comprised a bigger entry than at former sales, and they were of a good even quality. With the excep-. tion of one or two lines from and Kaikoura the entry was Irom .within the province. Store sheep also made up a larger offering, but the sale was erratic. Sheep were forward from Blenheim and Kaikoura. There was no alteration in the values prevailing at last market. The fat lamb auction was a steady one throughout at late rates. The general quality of the offering, however, was.not as good as at recent markets. Fat cattle sold well. The sale for them opened out to a brisk demand and rates were increased by up to 15s a head, but as the auction progressed there was a decided easing, and over the final stages last week's rates were ruling again and inferior sorts failed to attract competition. The fat sheep section was an irregular one, with a. slight firming in prices for wethers.
STORE LAMBS. Entries of store lambs wefce .the heaviest this eeason, there being two full races .more than have been yarded at any 'sale bo far. Included in the offering was a_good. sprinkling of useful-looking lambs, and for allround quality it was as good a yarding as any at Addington this season.. There was a very large attendance of farmers, and the sale was a free one throughout. Kecent rains have been of immense benefit to -pastures and fattening paddocks, and buyers were -disposed to increase their limits, with the result that there was a hardening of values right through all grades to the extent of about Is o head. The entry was chiefly a local. one, -with • the Peninsula and North Canterbury districts well represented. Values were:— # . t-AT SHEEP. The sale for fat sheep, which- numbered 4000, compared with 6000 last week, started out firmly. Later, however, the bidding became very erratic, and over the whole sale there was- no differbnce in price from, last week.
