What is claimed to be a record for Southland in fat lamb producing has been brought to notice with the killing of a particularly fine line of fat lambs at the Ocean Beach works last week. From a flock of 1000 ewes, bred on the property of Mr William Ford, of Otautau, 1007.fat lambs were drafted. When the unfavourable season. is taken into consideration, it is highly creditable that over 100 per cent, lambs were obtained. It .is doubtful if this record will be lowered for a long time. i
The remarkable case of recovery atnong the ruins of Napier of a dental plate that had been buried m the debris of fallen buildings can be matched by a similar instance that r.ccurred' on the Takapqna beach, says the '' Npw, Zealand Herald." Some months ago a bather lost his artificial teeth when bathing off the end of St. Leonards toad; and: gave them up for lost. Two months afterwards some employee! of the Borough Council.} whxlo digging a trench, through the sand foi the laying of the outfall of the drainage, works, came across, the plate,-a conple of feet below the surface, and half a mile from the' place where it hdd been dropped. It was returned, undamaged to ' the owner* ((
