Mr Blakemore's successor. ■ The Temuka Bowling Club was represented at the Elderly Bowlers' Day of the South Canterbury Bowling Centre, held on the Park green on Saturday* afternoon by Messrs G. Levens and D. Ferguson. Players had to be 65 years of age or over and rink games of 21 heads were played. , Considerable damage to the side-rails of the bridge at the Five Crossroads corner, on the road to Milford, known as the Swamp road, was done by a car — evidently driven at a very high speed—at some time during last week. The uprights of a wing of the side-rails were snapped clean off and a rail was broken; and there were tyre marks bearing some indication of the nature and manner of the accident. The Geraldine County Council has had the damage repaired. Before Messrs F. C. May and E. Blackmore, J.P, 'a, at tha Temuka Court on Tuesday morning, Frederick Pimm was charged with using obscene language in a public place within the hearing of passers-by and also with assaulting Constable Southworth. Defendant , pleaded guilty. The evidence showed that at the time of the offence he 'was under tho influence of drink. He was convicted and fined 10s on the second chargo, and convicted and discharged on the first. He was warned that if the offence was repeated l>e would be dealt with more severely. Joseph Howrigan, aged 60, who stated that he came from Christchurch, was convicted and discharged for drunkonness, on the understanding that bo returned to Christchurch. . The executive committee of the Temuka and Geraldino A. and P. Association met yesterday at Temuka, the president (Mr. D. E. Lewis) presiding. The South Canterbury Dairy Factory 'Association wrote expressing regret that it could not contribute to-the A. and P. Association's funds for the. approaching show. The chairman explained that the chairman of the Dairy Association had agreed to a donation, but that the Dairy Association had refused the grant. The letter was received. ~ Miss M. McQuade, Oamaru, wrote resigning from membership.—Accepted. Mr li. P. Ashton (liismore) wrote enquiring for particulars regarding the transport of grain exhibits from Hinds .to Winchester. The secretary stated that he had replied*- and his action was approved. The secretary of the Temuka Municipal Band wrote accepting the Association's terms to play at the Show*— Beceived. { Mr G; Maginness, ; secretary of the Canterbury Cob and Pony Society, wrote, .offering Al Is for the maiden saddle pony under 14 hands, to be ridden by boy or girl under 14 years. He also offered an additional guinea for the maiden harness pony , under 14, hands, to be driven in harness. The writer added that the society. " was founded to encourage the, breeding of cobs and. secretary reported that her had replied offering ak ternatives to Mr Maginness, but no reply had been received.' The secretary said that it had been recommended that no cattle demonstrations be allowed on tho ground. Members were of the opinion that no action should be taken. . ; . 1 .
