THE HARMONIC SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual .meeting of 'the Christchurch Harmonic Society was held- last evening, MrF.H. Christian-presiding in the absence of the Mayor Bev. J. K. Archer). In moving the adoptionof the annual report" of the Society, the chainttan spoke of the excellent work, that-had been done by 'Madame Ottlee as conductor and, by -Miss Blanche Atkinson • as accompanist, and thanked their efforts on behalf of the Society., Reference was also made to the work, of Mr K. Q. Archer, convener of. the Social Committee, in connexion / with the Society's activities during the year. The report and the balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £10; were adopted. «The chairman mentioned that, Mr Victor 'Peters, who had been in England; < for the past three years, would return to Christchurch in September and would then resume the conductorship of the _ choir. He had already submitted several valuable suggestions for future 'work to the committee/ On the suggestion of members, .and ■■ with the -support of the choir, the in- , coming committee was recommended 1 to go into the' question of instituting a junior membership with reduced fees. During the year, it was stated, 1100 secondary, school children 'had attended « the Society's concerts, and a 'junior > membership would help to increase the Appreciation of good music among children. v The three retiring members of the committee, Miss D. Webb, Dr. F. C. A'Court, and Mr W. J. Spratt, were reelected unopposedf.
